Mid Level Backend Engineer (Financial Services)

Job summary

This role involves contributing to the Financial Services team, focusing on the development and enhancement of financial systems to support the company's expansion across Europe. • Proven backend engineering experience with a track record of building and deploying production systems.
• Familiarity with financial systems such as billing, invoicing, or payment processing is advantageous.
• A strong sense of ownership and responsibility for delivered work.
• Ability to learn quickly and ask questions, especially in regulatory and financial contexts.
• Interest in financial infrastructure topics like invoicing and compliance.
• Proficient in using AI tools in engineering workflows.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, particularly with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop core components of a new invoicing system, ensuring multiple billing models are supported.
• Build and enhance compliance infrastructure for e-invoicing and VAT across European markets.
• Improve payment processing systems, focusing on reliability and scalability.
• Collaborate with various departments including Finance and Legal to implement new billing models.
• Ensure code quality with a focus on auditability and correctness.
• Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing to support team growth.

Skills

• Proficiency in Java or Kotlin; experience with other programming languages is acceptable.
• Familiarity with EU financial regulations and e-invoicing standards is a plus.
• Experience with payment service providers or event-driven architectures is beneficial.

Education

• Relevant degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.

Tools

• Daily use of AI tools such as Claude Code for coding tasks and problem exploration.
