Junior/Mid Level Backend Engineer

Job summary

This role involves building and maintaining backend services within the OCPP and charge point domain, focusing on protocol handling, message processing, and device state management. The position requires a proactive approach to debugging and improving system observability, as well as collaboration across various teams.

Qualifications

• 1–4 years of backend engineering experience or a strong junior track record with production exposure.
• Proficiency in a JVM language (Kotlin preferred, Java acceptable).
• Experience with PHP is a plus for legacy systems.
• Strong debugging skills and a sense of ownership over work.
• Curiosity about physical systems and clear communication skills are beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services related to charge point operations.
• Debug field issues and improve system observability through metrics and alerts.
• Participate in on-call duties and automate manual processes.
• Collaborate with Product, Support, and Operations teams to ensure effective delivery.

Skills

• Clean and readable code writing.
• Familiarity with OCPP, OCPI, and event-driven architectures (Kafka).
• Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform is advantageous.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in backend engineering.
