Financial Costing and Management Specialist (International Development, Remote)

Job summary

This role focuses on providing financial leadership throughout the grant acquisition and management lifecycle, ensuring compliance and sound financial stewardship from proposal development to post-award management.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of experience in financial management of donor-funded grants in the international development or humanitarian sector.
• Proven track record in developing cost proposals and budgets for major institutional donors.
• Strong understanding of donor-specific financial regulations and audit requirements.
• Experience in financial monitoring and reporting for multi-million dollar grants.
• Ability to oversee sub-grant financial management and enhance partner financial capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Create competitive cost proposals and budgets, ensuring alignment with programmatic design and donor principles.
• Manage post-award financial performance, including expenditure monitoring and financial reporting to donors.
• Ensure compliance with donor-specific financial regulations and conduct risk assessments.
• Provide financial intelligence for donor landscape analysis and support Go/No-Go decisions.
• Build relationships with donor financial officers and provide capacity building to finance teams.
• Implement financial management systems and ensure accurate grant financial data.

Skills

• Advanced proficiency in financial proposal development and post-award support.
• Strong analytical skills for variance analysis and financial forecasting.
• Excellent communication skills for donor engagement and financial reporting.

Education

• University degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree or professional certification is preferred.

• Experience with financial management systems such as SunSystems and Workday, as well as financial analytics tools.
