AI Harness Engineer (On-site)

Job summary

The role involves developing a reliable AI engineering platform that serves the entire engineering organization. The focus is on creating a robust layer around AI models, including tooling, context handling, evaluations, and observability. The position is available at both senior and principal levels, with responsibilities varying accordingly.

Qualifications

• Experience as a staff engineer or senior individual contributor in building and operating distributed production systems.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and Codex.
• Proven experience in deploying LLM-based systems in production environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and fix issues with AI agents.
• Understanding of cost management related to token and compute usage.
• Ability to measure work effectiveness using frameworks like DX Core 4 or DORA.
• Strong communication skills to engage with experienced engineers and facilitate change.

Responsibilities

• Own the AI engineering platform, ensuring its availability and security.
• Define technical standards and reference architectures for AI-assisted development.
• Build an observability layer to trace agent runs and diagnose failures.
• Transform successful internal experiments into scalable solutions for other teams.
• Establish evaluations and cost tracking for AI tools.
• Provide recommendations on build-versus-buy decisions for infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with deployment requirements, including on-prem and air-gapped setups.
• Collaborate with product teams to integrate AI features in compliance with regulations.
• Engage engineers through hands-on support and documentation.

Skills

• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems and observability.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools and context engineering.
• Ability to manage production systems and understand failure modes.
• Familiarity with compliance requirements such as EU AI Act and GDPR is a plus.

Education

• Relevant technical degree or equivalent experience in a related field.

Tools

• Experience with AI coding tools and distributed system monitoring tools.
