Job summary

The Recreation Therapist is responsible for enhancing the physical and social skills of youth aged 6 to 17 with complex behavioral and mental health challenges through engaging recreational activities. This role involves developing and facilitating various recreation programs aimed at building confidence and promoting teamwork among participants.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy is required.
  • Current CTRS certification is required.
  • Experience working with youth, particularly at-risk populations, is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and oral communication skills are necessary.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities are required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate diverse recreation programs, including arts and crafts, sports, and nature activities.
  • Coordinate participation in clubs and organizations, such as student council and intramural sports.
  • Collaborate with the residential treatment team to integrate recreation with therapeutic services.
  • Oversee the use of recreational equipment and ensure safety during activities.
  • Adapt programs to meet the individual needs of youth.
  • Maintain documentation in an electronic medical record system.
  • Participate in physical interventions and maintain physical agility for youth supervision.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with youth and promote teamwork.
  • Ability to adapt activities to suit varying needs and abilities of participants.
  • Proficiency in maintaining recreation equipment and resources.

Education

  • A Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy is mandatory.

Tools

  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems for documentation.
  • Knowledge of recreational equipment and safety protocols.
