About the role

Job summary

The role involves supporting educational activities for youth with behavioral and mental health challenges in a residential setting. The Education Paraprofessional will engage in planning and implementing individualized and group activities aimed at fostering growth in various skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must have or be eligible for Paraprofessional Certification.
  • Experience in a school environment is strongly preferred, especially with children facing severe emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities are required.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is important.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate individual and group activities to enhance language, social, and other skills.
  • Participate in training and in-service activities.
  • Administer and interpret academic assessments to identify student needs.
  • Develop and implement diverse teaching techniques, including one-on-one and small group instruction.
  • Create lesson plans tailored to the educational requirements of students.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of tutoring sessions, progress notes, attendance, and grades.
  • Provide daily classroom instruction and manage experiential projects for K-6 students with developmental delays and behavioral issues.
  • Support teachers in differentiating instruction for students facing challenges.
  • Follow Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and maintain documentation procedures.
  • Assist Day Teachers and perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills

  • Ability to engage with students exhibiting significant behavioral challenges.
  • Physical agility to manage the supervision and treatment of youth, including the ability to lift and move students when necessary.
  • Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR training is required.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED is mandatory; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Tools

  • Familiarity with educational software and basic computer applications is beneficial.
