Workload Virtualization Lead (Remote, Technology)

Job summary

Lead the transition from proprietary hypervisors to open, automated virtualization platforms, focusing on the integration of VMs and containers in a hybrid infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with virtualization platforms, particularly VMware and large-scale data center virtualization.
• Solid experience in deploying and migrating to open alternatives like XCP-ng, Proxmox, or KubeVirt.
• Proven track record in planning and executing hypervisor migrations at scale, including workload assessment and cutover orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Define the virtualization platform strategy and target architecture for VM workloads.
• Plan and execute migrations from proprietary hypervisors to open virtualization stacks.
• Design and operate high-availability, clustering, live migration, and disaster recovery for virtualized environments.
• Deliver infrastructure as code for VM lifecycle operations using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
• Integrate VM workloads with monitoring, CI/CD, and GitOps pipelines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot complex workload and performance issues.
• Mentor teams through technology transitions and promote a DevOps culture.

Skills

• Proficient in scripting and automation languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, Terraform, and Ansible.
• Strong understanding of VM performance tuning concepts and high-availability designs.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues across compute, storage, network, and application layers.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in a related field.

Tools

• Experience with virtualization tools and platforms, including Terraform, Ansible, and various open-source solutions.
