Storage and Backup Lead (Remote, Technology)

Job summary

This role involves designing and managing next-generation storage and data protection platforms, focusing on transitioning from proprietary systems to open, software-defined storage solutions using commodity hardware.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with large-scale, hardware-agnostic software-defined storage, particularly with Ceph or MooseFS.
• Deep understanding of Ceph architecture, including MON/OSD/MDS layout, CRUSH maps, and capacity planning.
• Proficient in scripting and automation languages such as Python, Bash, or Terraform.
• Experience with enterprise backup technologies, preferably Veeam, and integration with array snapshots.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage the storage platform strategy, implementing a complete enterprise Ceph ecosystem.
• Architect software-defined storage across various protocols and integrate with Kubernetes and virtualization platforms.
• Design data protection strategies, including backup, replication, and long-term archival.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration of storage solutions.
• Promote a DevOps culture and automation-first approach within the storage domain.

Skills

• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with technical teams and stakeholders.
• Experience working with distributed teams and managing expectations across different time zones.
• Solid grasp of storage fundamentals, including RAID, snapshots, and QoS.

Education

• Relevant experience in IT or a related field is required.

Tools

• Familiarity with cloud-native storage solutions for Kubernetes and integration via CSI drivers is a plus.
