Senior Software Engineer (Geospatial, Remote)

Job summary

This role involves developing core geospatial products and internal data-processing tools, with a focus on optimizing software solutions for the electric utility industry. The position requires collaboration with product managers and team members to establish a technical vision for web applications and data pipelines.

Qualifications

• Over 5 years of experience as a senior software engineer.
• Proficient in designing ETL pipelines using Python for near-real-time data processing.
• Strong experience in building scalable web applications with React, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with XP practices such as Test-Driven Development (TDD) or trunk-based development.
• Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Implement best practices in coding and software craftsmanship, mentoring other engineers.
• Optimize orchestration of object detection and image alignment models.
• Design and maintain data and feature pipelines for extensive geospatial datasets.
• Contribute to the technical vision for internal annotation and QA web applications.
• Collaborate with product managers to identify and propose new product solutions for outage impact analysis.

Skills

• Experience with the geospatial ecosystem (e.g., PostGIS, Geopandas, Deck.GL) is a plus.
• Knowledge of orchestration frameworks like Dagster or Airflow is advantageous.
• Experience in building web applications for repeatable workflows is beneficial.
• Previous work in B2B environments, particularly with electrical utilities, is a plus.

Education

• Relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.

Tools

• Proficient in Python, React, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and ETL tools.
