About the role

Job summary

This role focuses on silicon photonics design and modeling, particularly in the context of optical interconnects for AI-scale computing. The engineer will develop co-simulation flows that integrate photonic and electronic designs, ensuring accurate verification across both domains.

Qualifications

  • MS and/or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics/Optical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of design experience in industry or applied R&D, with a focus on photonic and/or high-speed electronic design.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the electro-optic co-simulation flow, integrating Verilog-A compact models with circuit and link simulation.
  • Define silicon-photonics test structures and characterization plans, extracting compact-model parameters from various data types.
  • Build and calibrate compact/behavioral models for silicon photonic components such as modulators and photodetectors.
  • Correlate models against characterization data to enhance model accuracy and validation.
  • Collaborate with circuit designers, system teams, and foundry contacts to meet modeling needs.
  • Contribute to the shared component library, managing versioning, documentation, and quality assurance.

Skills

  • Proficiency in electronic-photonic co-simulation and Verilog-A compact modeling, particularly within the Cadence ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with photonic simulation tools like Lumerical or comparable software.
  • Strong understanding of photonic device physics and experience in building verification/testbench environments.

Education

  • Advanced degree in relevant fields such as Electrical Engineering or Photonics.

Tools

  • Experience with photonic simulation tools (Lumerical, Ansys, Synopsys) and circuit design environments.
