Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for HR and Payroll products. The backend is primarily built with Elixir and Phoenix, and the position is fully remote, allowing for flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing automation workflows and improving them through iteration.
• Proficient in Postgres or similar database technologies.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices using tools like GitLab or GitHub.
• Demonstrated capabilities in automation and AI fluency.

Responsibilities

• Lead major team projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Provide feedback and suggest solutions during product development.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and frontend frameworks like Next.js, React, or Vue is a plus.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
