Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a product using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database. The position is fully remote and offers the opportunity to work on meaningful challenges that impact global employment.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing automation workflows and improving them through iteration.
• Ability to think in systems, clearly define specifications, and ensure quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Actively engage in product development, providing feedback and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a solid understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, React, Vue, or Angular is a plus.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.

Tools

• Elixir, Phoenix, Postgres, GitLab, AWS, CI/CD tools.
