Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a global HR platform. The backend is primarily built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS. The position offers the opportunity to tackle complex challenges and significantly impact the business while working in a fully remote environment.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Proficiency in Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD processes using tools like GitLab or GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Provide feedback and suggest solutions during product work.
• Maintain a solid understanding of both product and engineering aspects of the team’s domain.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang, Scala) is a plus.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and modern front-end frameworks like React or Next.js is advantageous.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
