Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for various products. The backend is primarily built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a PostgreSQL database, and applications are hosted on AWS.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of significant team projects and engage in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Actively participate in product discussions, providing technical insights and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a solid understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform, focusing on performance and accessibility.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages such as Elixir, Erlang, or Scala is a plus.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and frontend frameworks like Next.js, React, or Angular is advantageous.

Education

• Relevant experience in software engineering or a related field is required.
