Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This position involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a global HR platform. The backend is primarily built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a PostgreSQL database, and applications are hosted on AWS.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing automation workflows and iterating on them.
• Ability to think in systems, define specifications, and ensure quality through verification.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab or GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Engage in product discussions, providing technical insights and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a solid understanding of the product and engineering aspects of the team’s domain.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug technical and business issues as they arise.
• Mentor junior engineers and support team activities beyond core responsibilities.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and React/Vue/Angular is a plus.

Education

• Relevant experience in software engineering or a related field is required.

• Elixir, Phoenix, PostgreSQL, AWS, GitLab, CI/CD tools.
