Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a global HR platform. The backend is built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in engineering with a focus on secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and enhancing them through iterations.
• Strong systems thinking skills, including defining specifications and ensuring quality through verification.
• Familiarity with Postgres or similar databases.
• Experience with CI/CD tools like GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and engage in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Actively contribute to product discussions, providing technical insights and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring and team activities.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of Elixir, Phoenix, and Postgres.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and frontend frameworks like Next.js, React, Vue, or Angular is a plus.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
