Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a global HR platform. The position is fully remote and offers the opportunity to work on meaningful challenges that impact international employment.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Ability to think in systems, define specifications, and ensure quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Engage in product discussions, providing feedback and suggesting improvements based on technical insights.
• Maintain a solid understanding of the team's domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang, Scala).
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, Angular).

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.

Tools

• Elixir, Phoenix, Postgres, GitLab, AWS, CI/CD tools.
