Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers focused on building tools, APIs, and integrations for various products. The backend is primarily developed using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, while the front-end utilizes React and Next.js. The position is fully remote, allowing for flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Ability to think in systems, defining specifications clearly and ensuring quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Engage in product discussions, providing feedback and suggesting improvements based on technical insights.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor other engineers and participate in hiring processes and team activities.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform, focusing on performance and accessibility.

Skills

• Nice to have: Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and front-end frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
