Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This position involves joining a team of engineers focused on developing tools, APIs, and integrations for HR and Payroll products. The backend is built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS. Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them through iteration.
• Ability to think in systems, define specifications, and ensure quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Engage in product work, providing feedback and suggesting improvements based on technical insights.
• Maintain a solid understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor other engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform, focusing on performance and API design.

Skills

• Nice to have: Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, React, Vue, or Angular.

Education

• Relevant experience in software engineering or a related field is preferred.

• Elixir, Phoenix, Postgres, AWS, GitLab, CI/CD tools.
