Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a global HR and Payroll platform. The backend is primarily built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in engineering with a focus on secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Strong understanding of system thinking, including defining specifications and ensuring quality through verification.
• Proficiency with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Engage in product discussions, providing technical insights and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug technical and business issues as they arise.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform, focusing on performance and accessibility.
• Develop reusable workflows and ensure results are verified for correctness and reliability.

Skills

• Strong engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, React, Vue, or Angular is a plus.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in software engineering or a related field.
