Senior Backend Engineer (On-site)

Job summary

This role involves significant ownership and influence over technical direction within a fast-growing payment company's Point of Sale platform. The position requires hands-on engineering skills to address scalability, reliability, and performance challenges as the customer base expands.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong experience in designing and operating distributed systems
• Proven ability to lead technical projects and influence architectural decisions
• Comfortable with ambiguity and shaping new products and systems
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Experience in building scalable backend platforms and APIs
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline improvements
• Experience in payments, fintech, e-commerce, SaaS, or high-scale transaction systems is advantageous

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve features for the Point of Sale platform
• Lead initiatives involving multiple engineers from discovery to production
• Develop APIs, services, and integrations for stock, order lifecycle, and compliance reporting
• Take ownership of features from design through deployment and maintenance
• Drive architectural decisions and long-term technical enhancements
• Enhance reliability, observability, performance, and security of the platform
• Mentor engineers through coaching and code reviews
• Improve engineering practices and development experience
• Contribute to testing and operational excellence

Skills

• Proficient in Java, Spring Boot, JUnit
• Experience with MySQL, Flyway, SQS
• Knowledge of REST APIs and Domain Driven Design
• Familiarity with Docker, Terraform, AWS ECS
• Understanding of ports and adapters architecture

Education

• Relevant degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
