Senior Backend Engineer (Financial Services, Remote)

Job summary

Qualifications

• Extensive backend engineering experience with production systems at scale, preferably in Java or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with financial systems, including billing, invoicing, and payment processing.
• Proven track record of leading architectural decisions across teams.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability for project outcomes.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to changing regulatory and business landscapes.
• Curiosity about financial infrastructure and eagerness to learn.
• Advanced proficiency in AI tools and their application in engineering workflows.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, especially with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build a new invoicing system to replace existing infrastructure.
• Develop compliance infrastructure for e-invoicing and VAT to facilitate entry into new EU markets.
• Enhance the reliability and scalability of payment processing and reconciliation systems.
• Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Revenue Operations, and Product teams to implement new billing models.
• Ensure systems are designed for auditability and correctness, maintaining traceability of transactions.
• Contribute to team growth through code reviews and knowledge sharing.

Skills

• Strong backend engineering and system design capabilities.
• Experience with financial systems and compliance requirements.
• Ability to lead technical design discussions and decisions.
• Proficient in using AI tools to enhance engineering processes.

Education

• Relevant degree in Computer Science or related field preferred, but not mandatory.

Tools

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka) and high-throughput data processing is a plus.
