Senior Backend Engineer

Job summary

A Senior Backend Engineer is needed to join a Disease Management team, responsible for end-to-end ownership of backend services. This role involves designing, implementing, and testing backend solutions while mentoring junior engineers and ensuring high-quality software delivery.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend development experience with Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and Postgres or similar technologies.
• Proficient in API design, data modeling, testing, and integration patterns.
• Experience managing production services, including observability and infrastructure as code, with familiarity in Terraform and AWS.
• Strong ownership mentality and a commitment to quality beyond personal contributions.
• Ability to effectively use AI coding tools and validate their outputs.
• Excellent communication skills for code, reviews, and documentation.
• Experience in health or regulated software environments, including familiarity with safety-critical domains.
• Knowledge of healthcare data interoperability standards and tools.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services, including APIs and data models.
• Ensure the reliability and observability of services, defining SLOs and implementing monitoring solutions.
• Enhance third-party integrations and maintain high standards of software quality.
• Mentor and support mid-level engineers in their professional development.

• Experience with cloud services and infrastructure management tools.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
