Senior Backend Engineer

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for HR and Payroll products. The backend is built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS. The position is fully remote, allowing for flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing automation workflows and improving them through iteration.
• Ability to define specifications, break down plans, and ensure quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.
• Demonstrated capabilities in automation and AI fluency.

Responsibilities

• Lead major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Engage in product work, providing feedback and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the team’s domain.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug technical and business issues.
• Mentor other engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform.
• Design interfaces with performance and accessibility in mind.

Skills

• Nice to have: Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, React/Vue/Angular.

Education

• Relevant experience in software engineering or a related field is preferred.
