R&D Senior Manager – Mechanics

Job summary

In this leadership position, you will manage a skilled team of engineers focused on delivering innovative mechanical solutions within the life sciences sector. You will drive excellence in New Product Development (NPD) and support Lifecycle Management (LCM) initiatives, ensuring high-quality solutions that meet performance expectations.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred
• Over 7 years of experience in product development within a regulated environment
• Deep technical expertise in mechanical engineering with a proven ability to define strategy and set technical direction
• Experience managing complex systems, including integrated instrument platforms and high-volume consumables
• Strong background in collaboration with external partners such as suppliers and consultants

Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, development, and manufacturing transfer of mechanical parts and assemblies
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to the team and cross-functional partners
• Align mechanical development activities with stakeholders across various functions
• Plan long-term mechanical roadmaps for NPD while supporting LCM priorities
• Lead and develop the R&D Mechanics team to foster a high-performing organization
• Drive talent development and standardization of processes for project execution
• Stay updated on industry trends and integrate relevant innovations into the team's work

Skills

• Strong understanding of trade-offs in instrument and consumable design
• Knowledge of engineering best practices and methodologies, including DfX, FMEA, and tolerance analysis
• Familiarity with simulation, materials, manufacturing processes, and metrology

Education

• Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or similar field preferred

Tools

• Proficiency in engineering design and simulation tools relevant to mechanical engineering
