Job summary

The Department of Energy Conversion and Storage at a leading technical university invites applications for a PhD scholarship focused on the advanced characterization of high temperature proton conducting electrochemical cells and stacks. The role involves investigating mechanisms that limit performance and lifespan through detailed electrochemical and microstructural analysis, with the aim of enhancing efficiency and durability in sustainable energy applications.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent in materials science, solid state chemistry, electronic engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience in fuel cells, electrolysis, electronic/power electronics, materials characterization, or electrochemistry is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct electrochemical and microstructural characterization of proton conducting cells and stacks.
  • Develop and upgrade test setups for advanced electrochemical characterization.
  • Establish test protocols for accelerated testing and analyze degradation under various operational conditions.
  • Correlate microstructural changes with electrochemical performance results.
  • Participate in teaching activities and disseminate research findings in international journals and conferences.

Skills

  • Proficiency in electrochemical characterization techniques, including impedance spectroscopy.
  • Innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Education

  • Candidates must hold a relevant master's degree as specified above.

Tools

  • Experience with electrochemical testing equipment and methodologies is preferred.
