About the role

Job summary

This position offers a PhD scholarship focused on advanced numerical modeling of sand bed interactions with porous structures, such as breakwaters and artificial reefs, within the field of coastal engineering. The research aims to enhance turbulence modeling and address real-world coastal challenges using computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level.
  • Solid understanding of coastal sediment transport processes.
  • Knowledge and experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD), preferably OpenFOAM.
  • Proficiency in English with strong presentation and scientific writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced numerical analyses of morphological interactions with porous structures.
  • Develop immersed boundary conditions within porous stone protection layers using OpenFOAM.
  • Model sediment transport dynamics inside and outside the stone protection layer.
  • Collaborate with national and international researchers to validate and improve methodologies.

Skills

  • Experience with scripting in Matlab/Python and C++ programming.
  • Familiarity with High Performance Computing (HPC).
  • Creative problem-solving skills in engineering and numerical contexts.

Education

  • A master's degree in a relevant field is required.

Tools
