About the role

Job summary

A 3-year PhD fellowship is available in the field of chemistry focused on the experimental elucidation of CO2 valorisation. The position is set to begin on August 1, 2026, or soon thereafter, and will be conducted under the supervision of experienced faculty in an international research environment.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in experimental organic chemistry, organometallics, catalysis, CO2 chemistry, and/or gas handling is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, synthesize, and apply novel ionic liquids for carbon capture and utilization alongside known and new catalysts.
  • Conduct detailed solvent analysis to map reaction pathways.
  • Optimize a hybrid catalytic system through experimental methods.
  • Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects, and disseminate research findings to peers and the public.

  • High motivation and ambition towards scientific excellence.

Education

  • A master's degree in a relevant discipline is required.

Tools

  • Advanced solvent analytical tools and spectroscopic techniques will be utilized in the research.
