Job summary

A PhD position is available focused on the characterization and modeling of mass transfer in a pilot-scale U-loop system as part of a collaborative research project. The role involves studying gas-liquid mass transfer using advanced measurement techniques and mathematical modeling to enhance understanding of gas fermentation processes.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in chemical and/or biochemical engineering or equivalent (minimum 120 ECTS points).
  • Strong process understanding with interest in experimental work at pilot scale.
  • Experience with mathematical modeling and computational fluid dynamics is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate gas-liquid mass transfer in a 6 m³ U-loop reactor using particle image velocimetry and endoscopic techniques.
  • Evaluate the influence of operational variables and design changes on mass transfer phenomena.
  • Collaborate with postdoctoral researchers to develop mathematical models for data interpretation and predictions.

Skills

  • Proficiency in experimental techniques related to fluid dynamics and mass transfer.
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and modeling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a research environment.

Education

  • A two-year master's degree in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Familiarity with particle image velocimetry, computational fluid dynamics software, and mathematical modeling tools.
