About the role

Job summary

Two PhD scholarships are available in the field of battery materials, focusing on computational modelling and experimental fabrication. The research aims to develop sustainable and durable energy storage systems through self-healing interfaces using potassium-sulfur chemistries.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work independently and manage project quality and progress.
  • Proven expertise in computational/theoretical physics, chemistry, materials science, or related fields.
  • Experience in materials modelling, electrochemistry, or battery fabrication is essential.
  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

  • For the computational position: Develop an AI-enhanced multiscale modelling framework to study ion transport and interfacial evolution, extending models to capture degradation and self-healing phenomena.
  • For the experimental position: Synthesize and characterize novel solid-state electrolytes, investigate their interfaces, and validate self-healing strategies using advanced electrochemical testing techniques.
  • Collaborate in a feedback loop between modelling and experimental work to accelerate materials discovery.

Skills

  • Expertise in computational modelling and materials science.
  • Proficiency in electrochemical testing and characterization techniques.

Education

  • A master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Familiarity with density functional theory, molecular dynamics, and machine learning techniques is beneficial.
