Job summary

Two PhD scholarships are available in the field of computational modeling and experimental investigation of battery materials and fabrication, focusing on self-healing interfaces and sustainable energy storage systems. Candidates will work on either computational or experimental aspects of battery research, contributing to a collaborative environment aimed at advancing battery technology.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work independently and manage project quality and progress.
  • Proven expertise in computational/theoretical physics, chemistry, materials science, or related fields.
  • Experience in materials modeling, electrochemistry, or battery fabrication is essential.
  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

  • For the computational position: Develop an AI-enhanced multiscale modeling framework to study ion transport and interfacial evolution, extending models to capture degradation and self-healing phenomena.
  • For the experimental position: Synthesize and characterize novel solid-state electrolytes, investigate their interfaces, and validate self-healing strategies through advanced electrochemical testing.
  • Collaborate in a feedback loop where modeling predictions inform experiments and vice versa, accelerating materials discovery.

Skills

  • Expertise in computational modeling techniques and materials science.
  • Proficiency in experimental techniques for battery materials characterization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education

  • A master's degree in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Familiarity with density functional theory, molecular dynamics, and machine learning techniques for modeling.
  • Experience with electrochemical testing and characterization methods.
