About the role

Job summary

This position involves a PhD scholarship focused on the intersection of synthetic organic chemistry and NMR spectroscopy. The project aims to develop and synthesize new chiral alignment media to enhance NMR-based enantiomer structure elucidation for potential drug scaffolds. The candidate will work under the supervision of professors from two institutions.

Qualifications

  • A two-year Master of Science degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent in Chemistry or a related field with a strong foundation in synthetic organic and analytical chemistry.
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Familiarity with NMR spectroscopy for structure elucidation and method development.
  • Experience in analytical chemistry workflows.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate scientific concepts effectively.
  • A collaborative team player with a proactive approach.

Responsibilities

  • Design and synthesize new chiral alignment media based on chiral functionalized graphene oxide and chiral molecules.
  • Utilize advanced NMR spectroscopic techniques to assess the alignment properties of the new media.
  • Analyze NMR structural parameters in conjunction with Density Functional Theory calculations to elucidate the stereospecific 3D structures of drug scaffolds.

Education

  • Candidates must hold a relevant master's degree as specified above.

Tools

  • Advanced NMR spectroscopy techniques and computational chemistry tools.
