About the role

Job summary

This PhD position focuses on developing and validating simulation models for the grid connection of renewable Hybrid Power Plants (HPPs) that integrate wind turbines, solar PV systems, and battery storage. The research will take place in a university setting with access to an experimental research facility and collaboration with industry.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in power systems engineering or a related field (equivalent to 120 ECTS points)
  • Understanding of power converter technology and control
  • Experience with EMT simulations of converter-based units, preferably using PSCAD
  • Experience with RMS simulations of converter-based units, preferably using PowerFactory
  • Familiarity with frequency domain analysis, including Fourier transformation
  • Knowledge of IEC 61400-21 and IEC 61400-27 standards

Responsibilities

  • Complete courses as per the study plan
  • Develop RMS and EMT time series simulation models for Risø HPP using PowerFactory and PSCAD
  • Plan tests at Risø HPP to gather real test results for model validation
  • Analyze and validate frequency domain models for Risø HPP
  • Specify methods for validating simulation models based on real-world tests
  • Present research findings in meetings and conferences
  • Co-supervise undergraduate and master's students' projects
  • Assist in teaching relevant courses
  • Provide guidance for visits to Risø HPP

Education

  • A two-year master's degree in power systems engineering or a similar field is required.
