Job summary

This PhD position focuses on the techno-economic analysis of seasonal storage solutions in electricity grid stabilization, particularly utilizing Power-to-X technologies and biomass batteries. The role involves collaboration with academic and industrial partners to contribute to the green transition.

Qualifications

  • A master's degree in materials science, ceramic engineering, chemical engineering, energy engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and modeling skills in thermodynamics and mathematical optimization.
  • Experience in techno-economic analysis, process modeling, or energy systems analysis is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thermodynamic modeling and optimization of electrochemical energy conversion systems.
  • Perform in-depth techno-economic analysis and optimization of oxy-fuel combustion technologies.
  • Analyze performance, cost, and scalability of Power-to-X technologies.
  • Engage in mixed integer linear optimization of energy storage system design and operation.
  • Support the development of open-source datasets for system modeling.

Education

  • Candidates must possess a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or an equivalent academic level.

Tools

  • Familiarity with modeling software and optimization tools relevant to energy systems analysis.
