Job summary

This fully funded PhD project focuses on developing delay-adaptive control algorithms at the intersection of model predictive control and advanced dynamical systems. The research will contribute to the safe operation of next-generation molten salt nuclear reactors under critical conditions. The candidate will work on-site at a leading technical university and collaborate with researchers from an international institution.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in applied mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or related fields.
  • Two-year master's degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or engineering (120 ECTS points) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Develop theory and practical algorithms for delay-adaptive model predictive control (MPC).
  • Design delay-adaptive MPC algorithms for molten-salt nuclear reactors.
  • Co-supervise MSc and BSc projects related to delay-adaptive control.
  • Participate in conferences and contribute to scientific literature.
  • Contribute to courses on stochastic adaptive control and advanced dynamical systems.

Skills

  • Experience in systems and control theory, dynamical systems, scientific computing, numerical methods, stochastics, and probability theory.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or Julia.
  • Strong analytical skills, critical mindset, and curiosity to engage with other researchers.

Education

  • A master's degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, engineering, or a related field is required.

Tools

  • Programming tools including Matlab, Python, Julia, or similar.
