MHPSS Officer (Humanitarian, Geneva)

Job summary

An experienced Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) professional is sought to enhance MHPSS initiatives within a global humanitarian organization. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and coordination of MHPSS programs in emergency contexts.

Qualifications

• Relevant academic degree in psychology, psychiatry, or a Master’s in public health or related fields.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in MHPSS program implementation within humanitarian settings.
• Strong background in multi-actor coordination within large humanitarian organizations.
• At least 5 years of field experience in disaster environments, with previous deployments being advantageous.
• Proficiency in English and another IFRC official language (Arabic, French, Spanish).

Responsibilities

• Strengthen emergency response systems and preparedness initiatives in collaboration with National Societies and regional offices.
• Manage the global MHPSS roster and facilitate integration of MHPSS into emergency responses.
• Conduct mapping and updates of MHPSS activities across National Societies and IFRC offices.
• Identify and address priorities and challenges in MHPSS programs with National Societies.
• Provide technical support for MHPSS interventions and contribute to resource mobilization efforts.
• Participate in emergency Task Force meetings and strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders in MHPSS.

Skills

• Excellent communication, coordination, and networking abilities.
• Proven capacity-building experience with local partners, including training.
• Extensive knowledge of public mental health and psychosocial approaches.

Education

• Relevant academic qualifications in psychology, psychiatry, or public health.

Tools

• Familiarity with MHPSS policies, tools, and practices within the humanitarian sector.
