Materials Science Manager

Job summary

The role involves leading the Materials Science function at a site, focusing on the technical stewardship of various materials throughout their lifecycle. This includes managing a team of specialists and collaborating with multiple departments to ensure material quality and compliance.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in materials science, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, chemical engineering, or a related field.
• Significant experience in GMP-regulated pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing with direct responsibility for raw materials.
• Proven expertise in material qualification, lifecycle management, and supplier assessments.
• Formal line-management experience with a focus on developing technical teams.
• Proficient in English with strong scientific judgment and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of five technical specialists, setting direction and managing performance.
• Improve the Materials Science operating model, including governance and risk-based processes.
• Provide technical direction for specifications and material lifecycle oversight.
• Assess material-related topics from various perspectives and provide actionable recommendations.
• Drive alignment across departments and represent Materials Science in governance forums.
