Commissioning Engineer

Job summary

The role involves overseeing the mechanical and electrical commissioning scope for a large-scale data centre project, ensuring compliance and documentation from installation to client handover. The Commissioning Engineer will work closely with the Client's Commissioning Authority and manage various commissioning phases.

Qualifications

• Degree, higher diploma, or trade apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering
• Minimum 5 years' commissioning experience in a large onsite environment, with proven delivery on high-value projects (contract values over €200m)
• Practical experience with MEP systems across the full Level 1–5 commissioning process

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the commissioning programme aligned with the construction schedule
• Review design documentation to ensure systems are commissionable and raise queries as needed
• Prepare commissioning documentation for approval by the Client and CxA
• Coordinate vendor specialists and subcontractors for commissioning phases
• Lead pre-functional inspections and static testing, verifying installation quality
• Execute functional performance testing and support Integrated Systems Testing
• Manage system energisation and ensure compliance with safety protocols
• Track and resolve commissioning issues, escalating blockers as necessary
• Maintain commissioning documentation and verify vendor reports
• Compile system turnover packages and support client training sessions
• Produce regular commissioning progress reports for senior management

Skills

• Strong technical writing skills for documentation and reporting
• Proficient in reading and interpreting technical diagrams and specifications
• Competent with commissioning management platforms and Excel for tracking
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team

Education

• Relevant degree or diploma in engineering or related field
