Job summary

The Chief of Party / Project Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing large-scale, donor-funded development and humanitarian programs. This position provides strategic direction, technical guidance, and financial management while engaging with various stakeholders across diverse program contexts.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Chief of Party, Project Director, or similar role, demonstrating leadership in strategy, implementation, budgeting, and adaptive management in complex environments.
  • Over 10 years of senior leadership experience in managing large, donor-funded international development or humanitarian programs, including full project cycles and multi-partner coordination.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate multicultural teams and collaborate effectively with government, donors, local organizations, and private-sector partners.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, capable of engaging high-level stakeholders as well as community partners and beneficiaries.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for program design, implementation, and learning, ensuring alignment with organizational mission and donor expectations.
  • Oversee day-to-day program implementation, ensuring compliance with technical standards and donor regulations while strengthening operational systems.
  • Lead financial planning and forecasting processes, ensuring compliance with donor rules and organizational policies.
  • Supervise senior national and international staff, fostering a high-performing team environment and supporting partner capacity strengthening.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with donors, government counterparts, and other stakeholders, enhancing organizational visibility and partnerships.
  • Ensure the development of strong monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) systems to support data quality and evidence generation.

Skills

  • Mastery of grant cycle management and donor relationship management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on adaptive management.
  • Proficiency in financial management and reporting.

Education

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field such as international development, public administration, or a related discipline is preferred.

Tools

  • Familiarity with technology platforms and knowledge management systems for program oversight and reporting.
