Backend Engineer

Job summary

The role involves working as a Backend Engineer within a cross-functional team focused on enhancing user experiences in a social shopping platform. Responsibilities include owning backend features from design to delivery, implementing GraphQL APIs, and ensuring code quality.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in backend engineering with a focus on JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Proven experience in designing and evolving GraphQL APIs in a production environment.
• Familiarity with SQL databases for data management.
• Demonstrated ability to manage features end-to-end with a commitment to high code quality.
• Experience working independently in a small team and effectively communicating progress and risks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend features and services.
• Design and implement GraphQL APIs and backend systems.
• Ensure code quality, readability, and correctness through critical reviews.
• Communicate proactively about project status and technical decisions.
• Integrate with internal and external APIs and manage data.
• Identify and act on technical improvements.

Skills

• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with GraphQL APIs.
• Knowledge of SQL databases.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in a related field.

Tools

• Familiarity with NestJS, Google Cloud, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Drizzle/ORMs, Kafka, Prometheus, and Grafana is advantageous.
