Valar is seeking a Security Superintendent to support an existing a professional team led by an experienced Security Manager and supported by number of local and expatriate staff in a large private sector extractives project.  The project is its expeditionary phase and this is a dynamic multi-role position with specific areas of essential expertise being: risks assessment & management, strategic planning, community engagement, planning, and in-house training and capacity building.

Primary functions

  • Operational Support for Access in the field. Responsible for fully integrating into all departments and working directly with Community Relations, Projects and Operations to ensure they have the support required to operate securely and safely in the field.

 

  • Security Threat Risks Assessment (STRA): Assist the Security Manager in maintaining the risk register, conducting STRAs and dynamic risks assessments to support all field activities and engagement.  Lead training of department staff and staff from other departments on the purpose and use of security risk assessments.

 

  • Security Planning: Assist the Security Manager in keeping the project’s security achitecture up to standard current and effective. Support the Security Manager’s strategic function by working with heads of different departments to formulate effective CONOPs for specific company activities.  Communicate those plans to stakeholders and carry them out in coordination with the team.

 

  • Capacity Building. Support the company’s vision for development of the Security Department through targeted support for provision of staff assessments,  development of robust Professional Development Plans and training strategies to maximise the performance of the team.

 

Required

  • Excellent communication skills in French and English.
  • Formal training in risk assessment and risk management
  • Proven ability to design and carry out training programs
  • Proven ability to function as a senior member of multicultural team in a high paced environment.
  • Experience in authoring security plans and procedures to a high standard.
  • Proven success in supporting large and complex projects in challenging environments.
  • Proven operational security skills and a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Ability to work on rotation and in remote environments
  • Ability to meet client fitness for work standards

 

Preferred

  • Experience working as part of a community engagement team. Skills in winning social license to work in contentious environments.
  • Experience supporting private sector projects.
  • Experience with the extractives sector.
  • Emergency medical training and certificates.

 


Posting:  field-based in a remote and challenging location

Rotations: 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off.
