The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for a 2-year Postdoctoral position in CMOS circuit design for spintronic-based computing. The position offers an exciting opportunity to join a cutting-edge research project focusing on the co-design of CMOS and spintronic devices for next-generation energy-efficient and non-von-Neumann computing architectures.
The project explores hybrid CMOS–spintronic computing systems, leveraging emerging spin-based devices such as magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) to enable ultra-low-power, non-volatile, and scalable computing platforms. The research aims to develop CMOS interface circuits and system architectures that tightly integrate with spintronic devices for applications including in-memory computing, neuromorphic computing, and hardware acceleration for AI workloads.
As a Postdoctoral Researcher in CMOS Design, you will play a central role in the design, simulation, and validation of CMOS circuits enabling spintronic-based computing systems. You will work closely with device physicists and system architects to translate device-level characteristics into robust circuit- and system-level solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
The position offers the opportunity to establish an independent research profile while collaborating closely with existing activities in CMOS circuit design, neuromorphic computing, cryogenic electronics, and spintronic-based computing systems. The role also contributes to Denmark’s and Europe’s strategic ambitions under the EU Chips Act, and other similar programs.
The position is open from June 2026, and the specific start date will be agreed with the successful candidate.
What we offer
What we expect
Applicants should hold a PhD in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (completed within the last 5 years) with strong experience in CMOS IC design.
The ideal candidate has:
Workplace description
The successful candidate will join SDU Microelectronics, a dynamic and expanding section at the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IME). The section conducts internationally recognized research in integrated circuits, spintronics, photonics, and neuromorphic computing, and plays a central role in SDU’s ambition to be a national and European hub for semiconductor and chip innovation.
