Core Responsibilities

In this one-year temporary position as a Sustainable Packaging Engineer you will be part of a multifunctional R&D team comprising material, sustainability, and equipment specialists. More specifically, you will:

  • Contribute to sustainability and packaging research and development projects to advance sustainable materials.

  • Support a cross-functional team, including specialists in sustainability, materials, equipment, and testing with daily tasks and projects.

  • Assess new packaging materials according to internal criteria (e.g., equipment compatibility, sustainability, quality).

  • Function as a technical consultant for internal teams and external suppliers to drive progress in sustainable packaging materials and improve performance.

  • Conduct and coordinate physical material testing to confirm the performance of new materials.

  • Collaborate with a diverse range of partners, including Corporate Quality, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Engineering, to evaluate the feasibility and scalability of new materials and processes.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and production teams to ensure integration of new packaging materials into existing processes and address operational challenges, balancing new packaging with plant capabilities.

  • Create and maintain detailed specifications for packaging materials.

  • Regularly evaluate existing packaging testing practices, making recommendations for improvements.

  • Maintain thorough documentation of material information, testing results, and prepare comprehensive reports.

  • Perform data analysis to create material insights, applying them in an end-to-end context.

Play your part in our team succeeding

Based in Billund, you will work in the Sustainable Packaging department of the R&D Packing and Packaging team. Your role involves improving the environmental aspects and efficiency of packaging solutions.

Additionally, you will support the Novelty & Packaging Development department as a cross-functional resource. This will allow you to gain deeper insights into P&P and both packaging areas while fostering alignment between the teams. The Sustainable Packaging team focuses on validating packaging solutions that meet consumer and operational needs while reducing environmental impact.

You will be part of a cross-functional R&D team including material, sustainability, and equipment experts. The Novelty and Packaging Development Material specialist subgroup governs all other packaging materials globally (e.g., flute, cardboard, building instructions, rigid plastic) and promotes innovation within these categories.

Do you have what it takes?

We imagine that you have experience in a production organization. Your focus might be packaging engineering, material testing and specification, packaging sustainability, or relevant technical skills. Moreover, you have:

  • Experience in project planning and collaboration with cross-functional collaborators.

  • Ability to collaborate across teams, proactively involving internal partners and resources.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication.

  • Contributes to team initiatives, even when outside of core responsibilities.

  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
