Job Description
Love building with LEGO bricks – and reimagining what they can become?
Here, play starts with imagination and takes shape through design. You’ll create new models, develop fresh play experiences, and help shape the future LEGO products with creativity, care and curiosity.
This is an invite to join our Product Designer Talent Pool, with a focus on LEGO Model Design - a role at the intersection of creative building, professional design craft, and product development. By applying, you’ll be considered for future opportunities within our Model Design team as they arise.
In this role, your focus will be on creating physical LEGO models that spark creativity and joy.
Based in Billund, Denmark, LEGO Design is home to over 600 creatives from around the world, designing iconic experiences that spark joy and imagination.
As a Product Designer in Model Design, you’ll collaborate across disciplines to develop play experiences that delight builders of all ages. Following the LEGO design process, you’ll concept, develop, and refine physical models — from the overall play experience to the small details that make each model unique and true to the LEGO System.
Whether you’ve built your skills with LEGO bricks as a fan or through formal design education, we would love to learn more about you. What matters most is your creativity, love of play, ability to bring ideas to life – together with a collaborative spirit that makes ideas stronger through teamwork.
We’re building a diverse Model Design talent pool. Relevant strengths may include:
• Hands-on experience creating LEGO models — professionally or as a fan.
• Passion for building with LEGO bricks and understanding the LEGO System.
• Ability to design original models that are playful, clear, and full of character.
• Curiosity about designing for different ages and a sense of what makes a LEGO set fun, functional, or collectible.
• Comfort iterating models based on feedback.
• Collaborative, curious, and hands-on approach to problem-solving.
• Formal design education or creative experience — a plus for structuring design thinking, communicating ideas clearly, and turning concepts into tangible models.
• Experience with 3D modelling or digital building tools (e.g., LEGO Digital Designer, Studio) — a plus.
As part of the Talent Pool process, after reviewing your application, you'll receive a Model Design case. Completing the case is required if you’d like to be considered for the Talent Pool. It’s your opportunity to explore your own ideas in a LEGO context and to show us how you approach design through models, form, and storytelling.
We review applications twice a year. If your portfolio and design case demonstrate strong potential, you may be invited to continue the process, which can include an interview and additional creative assessments. If you successfully progress, you may be welcomed into our Model Design Talent Pool — giving you the opportunity to be considered for future design opportunities as they arise.
The next application round opens from February 6 to March 2. During this time, you can submit your application and receive the design case. After this round, the next opportunity to be considered for the Talent Pool will be in Fall 2026.
Due to the high volume of applications, we’re unfortunately unable to provide individual updates or feedback unless you are selected to move forward in the process.
We’d love to see how you think, create, and innovate through your designs. Your portfolio should ideally showcase:
• Original LEGO models – both physical builds and/or digital ones that demonstrate your creativity and design process.
• A variety of LEGO model types – such as interactions, characters, vehicles, functions, architecture, sculptural builds, or displays, to showcase your versatility as a designer.
• Reflections on the play experience – we encourage you to share how you envision your models being played with, the stories they tell, and the experiences they offer.
• Clear photos or renders of your work, ideally supported by brief notes on your design thinking, inspiration, and challenges faced during the process.
• A short, written motivational letter sharing your background, any interests and passions, and what excites you about creating play experiences for others.
These elements will help us better understand your design approach and how you bring your ideas to life. While we value creativity and originality, we look for clear communication of your design process and an understanding of the experience you are creating.
It is required to upload a portfolio (system welcomes max. 5 documents per job application. Each individual file must not exceed 5MB in size) or to share a link clearly highlighted in your CV.
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. However, please note we do amend or withdraw our jobs and reserve the right to do so at any time, including prior to any advertised closing date. So, if you're interested in this role we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
