Job Description

Are you thrilled about working with complex engineering, math and physics while building the future capabilities of the next generation of LEGO® bricks?

Then this is an outstanding opportunity to bring your strong math, physics and geometry understanding, robust design knowledge and ability to transfer this core knowledge into LEGO® bricks’ design and functionality!

Please note that relocation support is not offered for this role.

Core Responsibilities

In this 6-month temporary position, you will join the Exploration Engineering team developing the future capabilities to ensure a high level of controllability in LEGO® element (brick) development while improving the quality level and FTT approval. More specifically, you will:

  • Redesign the current standard LEGO® connector matrix (clutch ability) with a math and physics approach

  • Build connector designs with predictable performance on functional measurements, lowering variance sensitivity

  • Transfer complex geometry development to a new simplified standard UDF, making it easily applicable for element developers

  • Ensure a high level of innovation in technical solutions applying solid business understanding

  • Deliver CAD files and specifications covering new complex LEGO elements

  • Adhere to fully objective and quantifiable criteria through math, physics and geometry

Play your part in our team succeeding

You will join the Novelty Element Development (NED) department in Billund. We develop the LEGO® novelty elements of tomorrow by maturing the element design into manufacturable LEGO bricks ready for mass production.

As part of NED, the Exploration Engineering team manages a higher degree of sophisticated engineering by working closely with key collaborators across LEGO® Engineering and Operations from early conceptualization phase to startup production. Furthermore, we experiment and evaluate and thereby establish organizational learnings to be applied across the LEGO Engineering value chain in the future.

The team, consisting of nine specialists, acts as capability builders, being at the forefront whenever new moulding technologies are developed.

Do you have what it takes?

The ideal candidate has a background within Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Technology or equivalent, but most essentially brings a strong interest in robust design principles, plastic materials, mechanics or moulding technologies. In addition, you have:

  • Strong capabilities of geometry, math, physics and materials, with the ability to apply these into early-stage design processes.

  • Kinematic design and design clarity understanding, enabling you to sketch robust design geometry with clear intent and degree of freedom, avoiding over-constrained mechanisms or ambiguity.

  • Ability to identify and evaluate design parameters through a Design of Experiments approach (DOE).

  • Experience with MatCAD, Python and 3D CAD design will be an advantage.

  • Proven analytical competencies within data management and execution of data-driven performances.

  • Phenomenal communication, collaboration and capability-building skills being able to establish positive relationships with partners and colleagues while seeking and challenging strong technical solutions.

  • Proficient in English both written and spoken.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. However, please note we do amend or withdraw our jobs and reserve the right to do so at any time, including prior to any advertised closing date. So, if you're interested in this role we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
