Core Responsibilities

  • Take part in shaping the LEGO Builder vision, product strategy and ensure the execution of tech strategy and business requirements.
  • Set the technical direction in collaboration with the teams and lead engineers within the LEGO Builder area and ensure its adoption in the product teams and with key partners.
  • Participate in a multi-functional leadership team to drive delivery and execution in your area in alignment with product and design to ensure everyone’s success through your product teams
  • Ensure the design and implementation of coherent and robust architecture that aligns to company direction and principles
  • Act in the role of People leader focusing on people development, motivation and satisfaction
  • Continuously formulate and communicate the technical direction within the area and tie it to people development and training
  • Participate in Creator & AFOL Technology Leadership Team to foster an engineering culture with focus on efficiency, quality and innovation.

The Creator &  AFOL Technology department is responsible for delivering a broad set of experiences and tools supporting both our internal product design processes as well as our consumer-facing experiences for kids and adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs).

As director of engineering in LEGO Builder, you will lead and grow high-performing product teams who develop and operate the LEGO Builder app (16m+ yearly active users), drive technical excellence and partner cross-functionally with product, design, analytics, marketing & LEGO Building Experience to deliver joyful, safe and high-quality solutions.

Do you have what it takes

  • 8+ years of documented experience from a digital engineering position
  • 3+ years of documented experience working as people or team leader in the digital space
  • Understanding of agile methodologies and experience working with or on agile development teams
  • Experience driving cross team solution architecture from creation to implementation
  • Superb communication, leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
  • Solid partner and stakeholder management competencies

Furthermore, it would be useful if you brought:

  • Delivery focused approach that value efficient and agile product implementation over process heavy project execution
  • Experience in mobile app development and general engineering practices e.g. React native, app platform, 3D, gaming, testing & observability, mobile architecture etc.
  • Not foreign to concepts like continuous delivery, DevOps, serverless architecture and domain driven design
  • Prior experience working with software product development as a product owner, tech lead or similar
