Please note: This is a position based in Billund, Denmark. Our flexible working model, “Best of Both,” allows employees to work 3 days/week in-office and 2 days/week remotely. 
 

Core Responsibilities 

In this role as a Design Master, Interaction Design, you will shape the future of interactive LEGO® play by designing and prototyping groundbreaking experiences that combine digital and physical play. You will bring deep craft expertise to explore new interaction paradigms and lead teams to deliver playful experiences that delight and inspire audiences globally. You will:  

  • Oversee and guide the design and development of complex interactive play experiences, focusing on both the interaction design process and hands-on prototyping efforts. Ensure the seamless integration of digital and physical components to create cohesive user experiences. 

  • Set standards for design within the team, establishing best practices for both interaction design and prototyping, ensuring the right balance of innovation and feasibility to overcome design challenges. 

  • Lead collaboration efforts across multiple teams, ensuring that design solutions are unique, engaging, and aligned with The LEGO groups creative vision, while balancing conceptual exploration with practical execution. 

  • Define creative direction for new concepts, ensuring they are both innovative and user-friendly, and guide the team through iterative design processes to bring concepts to life. 

  • Leverage consumer insights, data, and a deep understanding of the LEGO brand to refine and improve connected play experiences across multiple projects, ensuring designs resonate with users. 

  • Mentor senior designers, offering strategic guidance on complex interaction design challenges while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. 

  • Communicate and pitch strategic design concepts to senior stakeholders, demonstrating how ideas can be realistically translated into successful, high-quality interactive experiences within business constraints. 

  • Lead the team in balancing creativity and practicality, ensuring all play experiences are innovative, feasible, and aligned with both business and design objectives. 

  • Influence company-wide design initiatives by contributing to broader design standards across departments, ensuring that interaction design principles are integrated into The LEGO Group’s overall product strategy. 

  • Pioneer new approaches to interactive play design, particularly in the integration of new technologies, tools and innovative play methodologies.

Within LEGO Design, the Interaction Design team explores how digital and physical play can come together in meaningful ways. As a Design Master, you will play a key role in shaping the future of interactive LEGO play, pushing creative boundaries through hands-on experimentation, advanced prototyping, and deep design expertise. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop playful, innovative experiences that bring the LEGO brand to life in new and inspiring ways.

Do you have what it takes? 

We encourage candidates with a background in Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction, UX, Computer Science, Game Development, Architecture, or another relevant design or technology subject area to apply. To thrive in this position, we imagine that you would have:  

  • Extensive experience in interaction design, UX, or related fields with a strong portfolio of innovative product or experience design.  

  • Demonstrated expertise in prototyping interactive experiences, combining digital and physical elements to explore and validate new play concepts.  

  • Deep understanding of interaction design principles and user-centered design methods, from concept exploration to refined experience design.  

  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to translate complex interaction ideas into tangible prototypes and compelling play experiences.  

  • Drive collaboration across multidisciplinary product development teams including engineering, design, and product partners ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and that projects are delivered on time and within budget. 

  • Excellent storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to present sophisticated design concepts clearly to diverse partners. 

  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the department. 

  • Passion for playful design and curiosity for exploring emerging technologies, interaction models, and new forms of creative expression.
