Job Description
In close collaboration with Legal, Compliance and Risk Management (LCR) department and LCR Digital, eCommerce and Marketplaces (DEM) team colleagues, this role will provide legal sparring/advice and coordinate legal work in relation to our global online retail business and our digital marketplaces especially in the following legal areas:
Consumer protection
Direct-to-Consumer ecommerce
GDPR/privacy/e-privacy
Marketing laws
Commercial contracts and licenses
Procurement contracts within digital area
General legal advice
This Corporate Counsel role sits within the LCR department in Digital, eCommerce and Marketplaces (DEM) legal team which team provides global support to direct-to-consumer (D2C) activities and digital organisation as well as drives and implements our global online IPR enforcement.
The global LCR DEM team has team members located in Denmark, China, Singapore and the US, consisting of a variety of legal positions.
This role will focus on consumer protection, marketing, and privacy issues in our D2C business supporting and providing legal support to our business as well as our licensed website partner program. In addition, the position will provide general legal support within the D2C retail and digital area.
In addition to the other colleagues in LCR, the role will work closely with business stakeholders across different company locations and geographies. The role requires a high level of expertise and interest in the direct-to-consumer area, consumer laws, privacy and marketing as well as a continuous curiosity in the digital backbone of running a retail company.
This role offers the candidate a chance to further develop their business partnering and collaboration skills and requires the ability to make quick assessments/decisions in the fast-paced D2C retail area.
Law school/university degree in law at Master level or equivalent.
Qualification as an Attorney-At-Law (bar exam) is not a requirement but is considered an advantage.
Some 5 years of post-graduate international legal experience ideally from in-house legal teams or private practice, preferably within the online direct-to-consumer retail field.
Legal support experience preferred relating to consumer protection, privacy and marketing as well as consumer digital services linked to D2C retail and ecommerce business.
Ability to provide relevant and timely advice within a fast-moving D2C ecommerce environment to management and various departments on corporate governance, compliance, and regulatory matters with the needs of the business in mind.
Experience and interest in business partnering, stakeholder leadership skills.
Revise, draft and negotiate medium and complex contracts with an end-to-end perspective as well as understanding and being able to summarise and explain
the trade-offs for different scenarios to the business.
Provide training to employees on legal compliance and company policies.
Additionally:
Work independently with advanced knowledge when tasks are assigned with limited or no explanation.
Handle conflicts in negotiation with some guidance.
Good general understanding of commercial laws, intellectual property laws, competition law and commercial contracts.
Legal curiosity as well as appetite and ability to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge in a global company.
Ability to lead and manage strategic legal projects, inform and implement the company’s legal strategy in alignment with business objectives as well as drive and influence company policies in own responsibility area.
Ability to oversee disputes, including coordination with external counsel, identifying potential legal risks and developing strategies to mitigate them.
Experience working with competition law issues and/or brand protection.
Some traveling can be expected likely not to exceed 15 days per year.
Proficient written and spoken English.
