Would you like to help develop storm surge protection around Copenhagen?
We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who can, among other things, strengthen our technical expertise within the definition of technical criteria for the design of various storm surge gates.

Sund & Bælt works with the planning, design and implementation of storm surge protection solutions. Initially, this includes protecting Hvidovre, Dragør, Tårnby and Copenhagen.
The work includes, among other things, the establishment of storm surge gates at Kalvebodløbet and Kronløbet, which are the inlets to Hvidovre Harbour and Copenhagen Harbour.

About the position
At Sund & Bælt, we are behind some of the country’s largest infrastructure projects – from the Great Belt Bridge and the Øresund Link to the ongoing Femern Tunnel.

The position is placed in the Technical Department in Sund & Bælt’s division, Project Development & Sustainability, where the mindset is to take projects from idea to a decided, realisable project. We carry out, among other things, technical pre-studies and technical design for Environmental Impact Assessments. This means you must have the desire and ability to initiate and manage the tasks within your area of expertise that contribute to enabling a decision on implementation, and to ensure the project can be handed over to our construction division. Sund & Bælt emphasis on utilising and further developing employees’ competencies, and it will, for example, be possible for you to follow a project further into the construction phase.

We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer with solid and broad knowledge and experience with mechanical systems and solutions – preferably within maritime gates and locks. You are an innovative specialist who would like to follow projects’ development processes as the client.

In the specialist role, we also emphasise that you:

  • have a strong professional network, as well as the desire and ability to maintain relations with other specialists within the same field
  • keep up with trends and seek out new knowledge
  • can match our consultants, set requirements and quality-assure their deliverables
  • ensure that analyses, calculations, drawings and descriptions are carried out at a high professional level
  • contribute to ensuring that the products forming the basis for our project development always meet high professional standards

Who are you?
You are educated as a mechanical engineer with solid and broad experience with maritime mechanical systems and solutions relevant to the tasks described above. You have experience with consultancy management and/or task management and naturally take responsibility for driving tasks safely to completion – with an understanding that adherence to schedules is crucial to the success of large projects.

We place particular value on your ability to:

  • working in a structured and goal-oriented manner
  • being able to complete tasks and communicate clearly
  • ensuring progress through close collaboration with your colleagues
  • being able to explain complex issues from your field in a simple way
  • being curious about your colleagues, both professionally and collegially

We offer
Sund & Bælt is an organisation undergoing continuous change as we take on more tasks, for example storm surge protection. Your working day will be challenging and varied, with good opportunities for professional development, while we also focus on the balance between work and private life.

With us you get:

  • a challenging and varied working day with opportunities for professional development
  • a culture that respects the balance between work and leisure
  • a friendly and welcoming atmosphere
  • a strong collegial community, including seminars, summer party, family day and Christmas lunch
  • a salary package and title matching your qualifications, as well as health and dental insurance and unique employee benefits

The workplace is located on Vester Søgade in Copenhagen, close to Vesterport station. The working language is Danish, but both reporting and meetings in English should be expected.

Interested?
Please send your CV already today and tell us, among other things, why you are the right person for the job. The application deadline is 8 May 2026. We will hold interviews on an ongoing basis.

If you have questions about the job, you are welcome to contact Technical Director Henrik Christensen. Send an email to HECH@sbf.dk and state your phone number, and Henrik will call you back.

Due to Sund & Bælt being a critical infrastructure provider, employment requires passing a security clearance assessment.

We want to be an inclusive workplace with room for diversity. We therefore encourage everyone to apply regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, sexuality or disability.
