WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT TO US

We are committed to building a fair, compliant, and future-ready workplace for our global workforce. As Senior Principal People Legal & Compliance Counsel in People & Culture, you will define the legal frameworks, guardrails, and best practice standards that support our global business.  

 

This role sits in People & Culture (P&C) and reports to the manager of the People Safety & Compliance team.  

 

You will provide expert guidance on complex cross-jurisdictional employment matters, mitigate legal and compliance risks, and ensure our policies, processes, and systems align with local and international regulations. Your expertise in employment law, HR compliance, and data privacy will be crucial in building a safe, trusted, and effective work environment.  

 

You will not be responsible for local employee relations but will support People Business Partners worldwide through expert legal and compliance advice. 

 

Working closely with the P&C Leadership Team, Legal Department, Data protection, Group Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit, you will design, implement, and oversee global P&C compliance policies, processes, and governance models. You will also lead efforts to embed compliance awareness and build capabilities across the P&C function.  

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Ensuring all P&C processes, services, and systems comply with data privacy regulations.  

  • Leading or guiding internal investigations to incidents or breaches 

  • Overseeing adherence to our Background Check Guideline and acting as a key advisor to colleagues initiating checks, primarily in India.  

  • Monitoring new legislation and driving updates in P&C policies and processes (primary owner for EU; support for Americas and APAC).  

  • Ensuring compliant use and governance of all P&C IT systems and tools. 

  • Maintaining a global employment law risk register and providing quarterly updates to leadership. 

  • Supporting P&C during internal audits and reviews  

  • Driving compliance integration during M&A activities, including due diligence and harmonization of policies. 

  • Building compliance awareness and capability across the global P&C organization.  

  • Embedding strong legal foundations in P&C processes, protocols, and documentation   

  • Establishing legal guardrails in employment contracts and separation agreements.  

  • Supporting global incident management and ensuring consistent, compliant disciplinary practices  

  • Acting as liaison with Deutsche Börse to ensure alignment with global compliance standards and practices. 

WHAT WE VALUE

  • A law degree and/or extensive experience in compliance and employment law.  

  • Deep expertise in data privacy and global handling of employee data.  

  • Proven ability to develop and implement compliance policies, frameworks, and governance structures.  

  • Experience managing external legal counsel and advising senior HR stakeholders.  

  • Strong project management skills to lead cross-functional compliance initiatives.  

  • High integrity, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive matters.  

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. 

  • Ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, practical guidance.  

  • Calm, structured, and reliable approach to navigating high-stakes issues.
