WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT TO US  

At SimCorp, we support some of the largest financial institutions in the world to operate more efficiently by simplifying their investments, accounting and operations

Investment Operations is a product area within SimCorp’s Product Division, which delivers functionality enabling the operations users to be highly efficient. It also offers full STP and automation capability for the workflows and processes seamlessly across the product areas and the financial institutions workflows. 

This is an opportunity to be part of the transformation to re-shape the unified operations persona user journeys an operations professional at an asset manager/owner today navigates across reconciliations, corporate actions, settlements, matching, netting and quite a few other inter-related workflows. A unified cloud-native application that combines the right capabilities for the operations persona, with tight integration into the broader SimCorp One ecosystem via SimCorp One Action Centre (for smart AI-powered notifications).  

Investment Operations consists of five scrum teams currently planned to grow to eight scrum teams across several geographical locations, and we are now looking for a Director of Engineering to head up the product area.  You report to the AVP of Investment Operations. 

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR  

• Provide strategic leadership as a leader of leaders and their engineering teams—setting clear direction, promoting collaboration, and ensuring alignment with SimCorp’s vision and objectives
• Champion a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical excellence—creating an engaging environment that promotes growth, collaboration, and delivery of premium-quality software. 
• Align engineering priorities with product strategy, ensuring focus on business-critical initiatives while supporting continuous improvement and scalability across teams
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and operations, to deliver measurable results for complex projects
• Build the right capabilities within teams to meet current and future business needs and develop and execute the Product Area capacity strategy to ensure optimal resource allocation. 
• Maintain keen cost awareness, including infrastructure, cloud services (e.g., Azure), and headcount
• Partner with the architecture team to maintain clear technical direction and shape long-term engineering strategies that support scalability and innovation
• Optimize engineering processes by implementing best practices, improving efficiency, and leveraging automation where appropriate. 
• Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering leaders, encouraging professional growth and knowledge sharing across the organization
• Retain existing highly skilled staff and attract new experienced professionals to improve the team's capabilities and drive organizational success
• Establish governance model and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress Communicate, execute and follow-up on executive strategy to your organization. 

WHAT WE VALUE 

• Solid engineering background with professional software development experience
• Minimum five years experience leading cross-functional teams within a medium/large sized product area. Your peers look to you for advice and you are ready to take the next step 
• You have a good understanding of core engineering practices such as testing methodologies, coding, CI/CD, AI, security and architecture, and you can comprehend the work your teams do daily. 
• Takes initiative with a client-focused approach and a clear execution drive. Capacity to handle conflicting priorities and manage stakeholder expectations 
• You stay focused in emergencies, such as client incidents, and maintain clear, constructive communication
• Comfortable sparring with your peers in Engineering, Product Management and Architecture across Product Division to find the optimal solutions for the product. 
• Ability to anticipate the skillset, capability and capacity needs of the product area as a whole  
• Effective problem-solving and collaboration skills to overcome obstacles and implement change in a large organization. You are pragmatic and adaptable, creating a culture of collaboration and trust

NICE TO HAVE 

• Experience with Azure or similar cloud platforms.  
• Background in FinTech or capital markets.
